Yolo County Democratic Party Endorses Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez for Washington Unified School District
Teacher of the Year has the Experience for the Job
West Sacramento, Calif.- The Yolo County Democratic Party (YCDP) has endorsed Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez for Governing Board Member of the Washington Unified School District.
Of the five candidates running for a single seat, the YCDP felt that Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez is the most qualified candidate. As the 2011 Folsom-Cordova Unified School District Teacher-of-the-Year, Kirby-Gonzalez understands what it takes to energize students, implement an effective curriculum and bring the voices of both teachers and parents to the table.
Kirby-Gonzalez is dedicated to improving education in every classroom, and she clearly has both the passion and the skills to accomplish this. As a mentor to student teachers, Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez has given future teachers the skills they need to create an interesting and beneficial curriculum for their students.
“The YCDP endorsed Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez for Washington Unified School District because she shares our beliefs that public education is crucial for our future success and that test scores don’t define a teacher or a student. It’s our duty and responsibility to ensure a vibrant and challenging curriculum for our students, regardless of circumstance. Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez will ensure that the children of West Sacramento receive a quality education,” said Bob Schelen, YCDP Chair.
Kirby-Gonzalez is dedicated to improving Washington Unified School District so that fellow parents and guardians can be proud to send their children to public school in West Sacramento.
The Special Election for this office will be held on March 5. This is an all-mail-ballot, while there will be no poll-voting, voters will have a few weeks to fill out their ballot and mail it in. Voters should mail their ballot by March 1 to make sure it is received by Election Day.

Yolo County Democratic Party TO REGISTER VOTERS AT
WEST SACRAMENTO CITIZEN NATURALIZATION CEREMONY
YCDP to Engage Thousands
of New Americans
West
Sacramento, Calif.-
The Yolo County Democratic Party (YCDP), in partnership with the Sacramento
County Democratic Party and local labor unions, will register hundreds of new
American citizens at the naturalization event scheduled for 10AM on Tuesday, July
10, at Raley Field.
The U.S. Citizen and Immigration Service
will conduct a citizen naturalization ceremony to induct approved applicants
into American citizenship. Event organizers are currently projecting thousands
of attendees, including supporters and family members of the ceremony
participants.
The YCDP will maintain booths for voter
registration outside of the park on Ballpark Drive. Attendees will be able to
register to vote and to learn about the U.S. political system and the
Democratic Party platform. Approximately 140 volunteers from the Democratic
coalition, including multilingual volunteers, will be present to assist in
registering new citizens.
“We are excited and honored that the
naturalization ceremony will take place here in Yolo County for the first time.
This is a great opportunity to engage new citizens and to provide them with the
opportunity to vote in their first election this November,” said Bob Schelen, YCDP
Chair. “If we don’t reach out to these new citizens now, it will be difficult
to bring them into the political process. Registering and voting is the
pinnacle of our democracy and the Yolo County Democratic Party is directing all
of our energy toward empowering these new citizens.”
So many of the people who come to
our country do so in large part because they haven't had the opportunity to
engage and make a difference in the political system of their home country. Voting
is a right and a responsibility; the November election will be extremely
important in determining the direction our country will take and the values we,
as American's, will choose to prioritize.
The efforts
of the YCDP will engage new citizens by registering them so that they can take
place in the most significant act of an American citizen, voting. We
applaud those, both young and old, who have taken the step of becoming American
citizens. By registering to vote they have the opportunity to help define our
shared values and shape the American dream for those that follow.
To
get involved with the YCDP, please contact Kelsey McQuaid, Executive Director
of the Yolo County Democratic Party at 949.338.4194 or kelseylmcquaid@gmail.com.

Yolo County Democratic Party Endorses 2012 Primary Election
Candidates
In Pivotal Election Year, Californians Must Stand with
Proven and Visionary Leadership
Davis, Calif.- The Yolo
County Democratic Party (YCDP) has endorsed its slate of 2012 candidates for
federal, state, and local races.
As the first election to follow the 2010 redistricting effort,
and with both our state and country still on the rebound from the policies of
previous Republican administrations, 2012 is a crucial year for Californians to
keep Democrats in office.
Since 2010, Democrats in the nation's capital and Sacramento
have worked to ensure a brighter future for Californians in the areas of
healthcare, social equality, environmental protection, and economic recovery.
The 2012 slate of federal and state candidates endorsed by the YCDP have been
selected because they consistently represent the interests of Yolo County
residents and families.
In local races, YCDP has also chosen to endorse strong leaders
to represent their communities. After an extensive interview process, the YCDP
has taken the unusual step of endorsing all four Democratic candidates in the
Davis City Council race, regarding each candidate as an excellent and highly
qualified representative for the city. All four Democratic candidates have a
strong background in Democratic activism and uphold the values the YCDP seeks
in endorsing local candidates.
The YCDP has a coordinated Democratic campaign headquarters that
is a staging ground for phone banks and walks for all of the endorsed
campaigns. Throughout the Primary and General Elections, the YCDP will be
working with all of the Democratic endorsed candidates to ensure that
California stays blue and that President Obama stays in the White House.
The YCDP will be partnering with our endorsed candidates through
their election cycles. Please visit the YCDP's Headquarters at 2939 Spafford
Street Suite 140A in Davis, or contact Kelsey McQuaid at 949.338.4194, for more information.

Yolo
County Democratic Party Endorses Measure C
Quality
Education is the Key to Davis’ Success
Davis,
CA-
The Yolo County Democratic Party (YCDP) has endorsed the Davis School Bond, Measure
C. The YCDP supports Measure C because throughout the decades of state cuts to
K-12 education, Davis has always proactive in order to ensure the quality
education of our students. This continuation of previous parcel taxes, totaling
$320 per household and $150 per apartment, will provide necessary funding for
key programs and classes while preventing further layoffs of teachers.
Over the last five years, Davis K-6 students have seen
class sizes increase from 20 students to the current level of 25 students. Measure
C will fund class size reductions. The Davis community has always taken pride
in the level of education we can provide our students, but increased class
sizes during early learning will limit the ability of students to improve in
reading and math.
Due to state budget
shortfalls, the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) has already made $2
million in cuts over the last three years. These cuts have resulted in drastic
measures by DJUSD and the Davis School Board to balance the budget: closing a
school, salary cuts across the board, cuts to supplies and services, cuts to
staffing, and elimination of some class offerings. Without Measure C an
additional $6.5 million will be cut from the DJUSD budget, further limiting the
availability of course offerings and counseling services while forcing teacher
layoffs.
The economic downturn
has hurt schools across the state, but Davis has the unique opportunity to
decide the future of its schools by voting yes on Measure C. By voting in this
election, Davis residents have the ability to save elementary science and
music, K-12 libraries, while maintaining a sufficient number of offerings of
foreign language classes, AP classes, and core classes in math, science, and
English for junior high and high school students.
The YCDP feels strongly that it is in the best interest of
our community to provide every available resource for our young people. The
YCDP will do everything in their power to provide children with the best
education possible so that our community will remain creative, strong and
vibrant. That is why the Yolo County Democratic Party will be working to
support Measure C until the election. Anyone wishing to become involved can
contact our Executive Director Kelsey McQuaid at klmcquaid@ucdavis.edu.
Election Day is March 6th;
be sure to mail in your ballots by March 1st or drop them off before
8pm on March 6th at the Davis branch of the Yolo County Library.
