Yolo
County Democratic Party Endorses Measure C
Quality
Education is the Key to Davis’ Success
Davis,
CA-
The Yolo County Democratic Party (YCDP) has endorsed the Davis School Bond, Measure
C. The YCDP supports Measure C because throughout the decades of state cuts to
K-12 education, Davis has always proactive in order to ensure the quality
education of our students. This continuation of previous parcel taxes, totaling
$320 per household and $150 per apartment, will provide necessary funding for
key programs and classes while preventing further layoffs of teachers.
Over the last five years, Davis K-6 students have seen
class sizes increase from 20 students to the current level of 25 students. Measure
C will fund class size reductions. The Davis community has always taken pride
in the level of education we can provide our students, but increased class
sizes during early learning will limit the ability of students to improve in
reading and math.
Due to state budget
shortfalls, the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) has already made $2
million in cuts over the last three years. These cuts have resulted in drastic
measures by DJUSD and the Davis School Board to balance the budget: closing a
school, salary cuts across the board, cuts to supplies and services, cuts to
staffing, and elimination of some class offerings. Without Measure C an
additional $6.5 million will be cut from the DJUSD budget, further limiting the
availability of course offerings and counseling services while forcing teacher
layoffs.
The economic downturn
has hurt schools across the state, but Davis has the unique opportunity to
decide the future of its schools by voting yes on Measure C. By voting in this
election, Davis residents have the ability to save elementary science and
music, K-12 libraries, while maintaining a sufficient number of offerings of
foreign language classes, AP classes, and core classes in math, science, and
English for junior high and high school students.
The YCDP feels strongly that it is in the best interest of
our community to provide every available resource for our young people. The
YCDP will do everything in their power to provide children with the best
education possible so that our community will remain creative, strong and
vibrant. That is why the Yolo County Democratic Party will be working to
support Measure C until the election. Anyone wishing to become involved can
contact our Executive Director Kelsey McQuaid at klmcquaid@ucdavis.edu.
Election Day is March 6th;
be sure to mail in your ballots by March 1st or drop them off before
8pm on March 6th at the Davis branch of the Yolo County Library.

Yolo County Democratic
Party to Host 35th Annual Bean Feed Dinner Featuring Former
California State Treasurer Phil Angelides and Congressman John Garamendi
Davis,
CA- The
annual Bean Feed, a fun-filled Yolo County Democratic Party
(YCDP) fundraiser, launches our 2012 election cycle. Hundreds of
Democrats from Yolo and neighboring counties, will network, socialize, and
support vital preparation for all of our activities this coming year. The
enthusiasm for the 2012 election is already apparent; this Bean Feed will bring
together our energized organizers — new and veteran — so Democrats can ensure
that Yolo will not balance budgets on the backs of our elders, children, or at
the expense of our environment.
The
dinner takes place on Sunday, October 23rd from 5pm to 8pm at the
Davis Veterans’ Memorial Center (203 East 14th St., Davis). Food will be served
at 5:30pm and the speaking program is scheduled for 6pm. We’re excited to have
a tribute to Congressman Vic Fazio and a presentation from former California
State Treasurer Phil Angelides and Congressman John Garamendi. The Bean Feed
event this year will feature a never-before-attempted mini-fun-fair and a
silent auction that showcases Yolo County products.
Former
State Treasurer Phil Angelides has most recently served as the Chairman of the
Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission that was charged with conducting the nation’s
official inquiry into the causes of the financial and economic crisis. He will
speak about the recklessness of Wall Street that caused the crisis and what we
can do to rebuild an economy of fairness and strength.
Due
to redistricting, Congressman John Garamendi will be running in the new 3rd
Congressional District which will include Davis, Winters, and Woodland. This
will be an opportunity to learn what you can do to help Congressman Garamendi
in his upcoming competitive race.
The
Bean Feed will be an energizing launchpad for 2012. This is a great opportunity
to support our Democratic Legislators, to learn more about what is being done
to prepare for the challenges of the 2012 election cycle, and to find out how
you can help.
Tickets are $35.00 per person and can be purchased at the door or at https://secure.actblue.com/page/2011ycdcdinner.
For more information regarding sponsorships or to volunteer, contact Kelsey
McQuaid at (949)

The Yolo County Democratic Party looks forward to seeing you and preparing for
more victories in 2012.

Yolo
County Democratic Party Endorses Measure A
Funding
for Education is Crucial to Our Success
Davis, CA- The Yolo County Democratic Party (YCDP)
endorsed the Davis School Bond, Measure A.
The YCDP supports Measure A because something must
be done to maintain quality education for the students of the Davis Joint Unified
School District (DJUSD). The parcel tax of $200 per unit and $20 per apartment
will provide funding for key programs and prevent further layoffs of teachers.
Over the last five years, K-6 students in Davis have
seen class sizes increase from 20 students to the current level of 25 students.
Without Measure A, class sizes will increase to 30 students. Davis prides
itself on the education its students receive, but increased class sizes during
early learning will limit the ability of students to improve in reading and
math.
Due to state budget
shortfalls, DJUSD has already made $6 million in cuts over the last three
years. Measure A will generate $3 million in emergency funding for DJUSD that
will allow the district to preserve foreign language classes, availability of
course offerings, counseling services, and availability of school site safety
and support staff. Without this funding, students will be forced to choose
between college prep programs, such as AVID, and playing in the orchestra.
The economic downturn
has hurt schools across the state, but Davis has the chance to decide the
future of its schools by voting yes on Measure A. The members of the YCDP want
to do everything in their power to provide children with the best education
possible; that is why the Yolo County Democratic Party will be phone banking
and getting out the vote in support of Measure A.
